There are different units of length measurements. Among these three main units of measurements are feet, inch and cm. These are quite popular units in use to say the least. Suppose, you know the length of something in feet, but you want to know its length in feet or inch, then you are supposed to know its conversion for the obvious reasons.

But before you know about the conversion process on feet-inch-to-cm, it would be beneficial for you to know about these separate units first.

Foot

The foot (sometimes known as ft.) is a length measuring unit that has been used in the United States of America and the United Kingdom Imperial. It is a widely used measurement system. 1 foot equals 0.3048 metres, according to the International Yard and Pound Agreement of 1959.

Throughout history, the foot has been an important feature of various local unit systems, including French, Chinese, Roman, and Greek, among others. However, it is possible that it differed from country to country. Its length has generally been set between 250 and 335 millimetres.

Inch

In the United States of America and the British Imperial customary measurement systems, the inch, like the foot, is used as a unit of length. One inch is equal to one sixteenth of a yard. The word ‘inch’ comes from the Latin word ‘uncia,’ which meaning ‘twelfth.’ It is commonly said to be originated from the breadth of a human thumb.

Inch has also been used as a measurement unit in many places. Not to mention that it varies in length from country to country. Inch has been based on the metric system since the adoption of the international yard in the 1960s. The length is then set to 25.4 mm.

Cm

Like feet and inch, cm is also known to be a unit of length measurement. A cm or centimetre is considered to be the SI unit of length in metric system. 1 meter is equal to 100 cm. The term ‘centi’ is known as the SI prefix for the factor of 1/100. In the previous CGS system, this cm was the basic unit of length. This is why the use of cm was quite extensive in that time to say the least.

The use of cm is still prevalent in mathematical calculation. For example, the length of a line is expressed or determined in the unit of cm like 8 cm, 10 c etc. In that regard, many use cm even in the present time.

Conversion of feet-inch to cm

If you want to convert feet and inch to cm, then you have two separate options to follow. You are allowed to follow either of the option according to your preference and need. The first way is to directly convert feet to cm and the second way is to covert feet to inch first and the from inch you can convert it to cm. The choice is all yours.

Step 1: Write down the feet unit

In order to know feet to cm conversion, you have to write down the specific feet unit that you want to convert into cm.

Step 2: Convert it into inches

Now you are supposed to convert this feet into inches. For doing this, you have to multiply feet by 12. Whatever will be the result, add a suffix after the number. For example, if it is 10 feet then multiplying it by 12 will make it 120 inch.

Example : 5′ = (5 × 12) = 60″

Feet (ft) Inches (in)
0.2 ft 2.4 in
1 ft 12 in
5 ft 60 in
9.45 ft 113.4 in
10 ft 120 in
50 ft 600 in
100 ft 1200 in
200 ft 2400 in
500 ft 6000 in

Step 3: Convert the inches into cm

Now you have to follow the final step to convert inches into cm. You have to multiply the inch unit by 2.54. You are required to multiply by 2.54 because 1 inch is equal to 2.54 cm. Then add the suffix of cm after the output.

For example, after multiplying 2.54 with 120, you will get 304.8. So the ultimate output is 304.8 cm. So in short, it can be said that 10 feet is equal to 304.8 cm.

Example : 15 in = 15 × 2.54 cm = 38.1 cm

Inches (in) Centimetres (cm)
0.01 in 0.0254 cm
0.1 in 0.254 cm
1 in 2.54 cm
5 in 152.4 cm
10 in 304.8 cm
50 in 1524 cm
100 in 3048 cm
500 in 15240 cm
999 in 30449.5 cm

Conclusion

So it can be seen from above that the process is quite efficient, effective and easy but you are required to be careful while doing the calculation. A little miscalculation will give you wrong results. You can explore more information in this regard.
